I'm new to the group and I'm hoping someone can help me.
Does anyone know where I might find a Plus sized prairie dress pattern?
I'm looking for a dress like the ladies of that polygamist sect are wearing - the ones in the news lately because their ranch is being raided (FLDS sect).
It's a long dress, rounded collar, long sleeves (or can be shorter sleeves). I found someting not quite like it, but it was a costume pattern and it only went up to size 20. I'm looking for a 26 or a 28.
It's not really an Amish or Mennonite dress, either. I've looked at those, too, and they're not quite what I'm looking for.
Any links or suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking for odd pattern
Sat, April 12, 2008 - 8:05 AMI've found a few good folk patterns here: www.folkwear.com/patternindex.html
how handy are you with patterns? I ask because especially with simple stuff it's not too hard to get the biggest pattern you can find, see what the size increments are and just add that many units to the outside of your pattern. I usually recommend getting some cheap muslin or cotton fabric to do a mock-up since every body is different anyway. I put the pattern over the fabric, and when i need to make it bigger just get a ruler and a sharpie and make some dots along the lines at where you think your size would be. remember to copy down those pattern notes too (arrows and notches and such) and when you get a good mock up, all tucked and let out in the right places, un-baste it and keep that as your pattern piece. -
