Hi, I'm new at this. I would like a costume made for me for halloween, from a sketch. I would like either Mae West, or Carmen Miranda. I am however, a 300 lb. male. (I hear you laughing!!) Does anyone do this? I am in the Atlanta area. If interested, can you email me with a ballpark price at: atlantoon@yahoo.com
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Re: Looking or a seamstress to create my fun Halloween costume
Thu, October 19, 2006 - 9:15 PMal you've left this pretty late... (not laughing... my friend justin already has his betty paige costume done)...you have two weeks... i could make either but not in time for halloween... it would involve purchasing the material and getting the gown sewn in time to ship it to you... and there could be no guarantee of an ontime delivery... plus i charge a $100 deposit for materials and $10 an hour labor... depending on the outfit it could be anywhere from $50 -$250 for labor alone...
my suggestion to you would be this... instead of having someone sew something you can "throw together" a quick carmen miranda... you can do this by getting a lenth of fabric... carmen liked white... so a simple white fabric rectangle... fastened around your waist and hips... add a very colorful scarf around your hips tying in front... this was a carmen signature, the ties hanging in the front... find one with fringe if you can... if not get a large piece of fabric and wrap a length of fringe and or beads around it and tie it around your hips... take another lenth of fabric that matches the colorful part on your hips... hold it behind your back at breast level... bring it around and criss cross it in the front and tie it around your neck...again add fringe and beads ... using the same fabric, wrap your head up in a turbin... sort of the way you would wrap a towel around your hair... pin it in the front with a large glittery brooch... get lots of bangle bracelets... large hoop earings... do your make up... if you are gonna do "boobs" i suggest getting old knee high stockings and filling them with sand... you can even make them realistic with rubber bands to make nips... had a friend who used to help her grandmother make prostetics this way after masectomy... tuck those babes into your "bra"... put on platform wedge heels and you are carmen... be sure to paint your nails... fingers and toes...
yeah... i'm a carmen fan... mae west too...
