Ok, so I've got these circle skirts make and they have been hanging for a couple of months...needless to say, they have to be hemmed. Has anyone ever used a hem marker to do this alone? If so, how well do they work? Should I get a pin or chalk marker? I hate to have to ask someone to pin the hems since it's so time consuming.
Thanks for your help!

Re: hem markers?
Tue, August 29, 2006 - 5:11 AMif i've cut the fabric evenly i just use a seam gage and make the hem myself... if i haven't cut the fabric evenly like when i'm in a hurry... i measure from the waist band to the lenght i want the skirt and use a chalk marker then use my seam gage... unfortunately there is no one around me that i trust to pin an even hem... -

Re: hem markers?
Sun, September 3, 2006 - 1:46 PMTrouble with a circle skirt is, if you measure from the waist, it may not hang straight when it's on you, due to possible uneven bias stretching and the shape of your body, slant of your hips, etc. If it's something you really want to get right, have someone else mark it. There's these chalk markers that blow a puff of chalk on your hem, but unless you do a lot of skirt hemming, may not be worth the investment. You'll have to scroll down a bit of the page to find it. I like the pin clamp variety myself, but they don't self mark.

Re: hem markers?
Mon, December 4, 2006 - 1:35 PMThe chalk ones with the bulb are fabulous - it makes it so easy to have a level hem, even if your hips are off. If you have a playhouse/theater nearby, see if their costumer would let you use it to mark a skirt before you buy one. I will never ever ever get rid of mine!!!
