I am brand spankin' new to sewing and am curious for any advice any of you ladies may have for a beginner. I am borrowing a sewing machine but looking to purchase one for myself after the hollidays. The types of projects I plan on sewing are purses, curtains, and clothing.
Does anyone have a favorite website with plus size patterns to download??

Re: Sewing Newbie
Fri, November 30, 2007 - 10:47 AMi recommed starting wth regular paper patterns. having the actual pattern pieces to work with really helps. online patterns must either be redrafted by hand from instructions, or large pieces are printed in many parts, and then be pieced together before cutting any fabric. all the big pattern companies have plus sized patterns. joann.com has good sales on pattens.
i'd say more, but i'm having keyboard troubles.

Thu, March 6, 2008 - 7:26 AMthree cheers for starting to sew.. i dont know what i would do if i didnt.. yes it is a good idea to start with a store bought paper pattern. find one that is very easy . im sure once you make your first project you will be hooked.. i would suggest when you get your first machine dont go crazy and get one with all the bells and whistles. keep it simple..it makes it alot easier until you really get going..good luck and have fun
